Open University of West Africa

The Open University of West Africa was founded by John Roberts with a vision to break the cycle of born-into poverty in West Africa (Mali, Niger & Burkina Faso) through education, incubation, and investment.

West Africa is the least developed region in the world, with as low as 5% of university-aged students enrolled in tertiary education. OUWA’s solution is to utilize Open Educational Resources to educate students at low or no cost, then act as an incubator to invest in their ideas to bring greater development to an entire region.

Awaken Group CEO & Catalyst, So-Young Kang, joined OUWA’s board of advisors in 2012.
